Evansville’s Building Inspector is responsible for processing building permits,
conducting inspections and monitoring code violation concerns within the City. The building Inspector is located at the Public Works Garage at 535 S Madison Street, approximately four blocks South of City Hall.
Building Permits applications are available online here, in City Hall, or at the Building Inspector’s office. All checks should be made payable to the City of Evansville.
Note: Any permits issued under Safe-Built that require inspections will continue to be processed through Safe-Built. They can be reached at: (608)-688-0997.
Building permits are required for any modifications to the exterior of a historic structure, new residential and commercial construction, additions, fences, swimming pools, decks, signage, sidewalks, furnace, HVAC and plumbing. Depending on value, building permits are also required for siding, windows, roofs, etc.
The building inspector has open office hours to answer your questions Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 9am at the Public Works Garage and is available most weekdays by appointment.
